LLMC - Linux LISCON Management Console
Friday, February 22, 2008, 11:57 AM - LISCON
I am using the LMC under Linux. I thought it will quiet simple to set it up. But no, it wasn't!
So far I know, I am one of three users who uses the LMC under Linux --> great!
All Liscon images are modified Linux images and most of the other customers uses the LMC under Windows, so I can't understand this but ok, we have to accept that.

When you also want to run the LMC under Linux, please be informed and warned that it's not really simple and easy without any support or experience with Linux and LMC. But for the first thing read the documentation on the LISCON-Wiki.
Here are some tips to get it running (from my experiences):
-install a mysql database
-create a database for the lmc
-grant all privileges on this database for the user what you want to use

-modify the settings.sh in the installation folder of lmc
-set the right ROOT for the lmc
-when you have java installed in the Linux machine (it's recommended) comment the line with JAVA_HOME out

-copy the start parameter from the start.sh (it's something like java -Xm...) and start the lmc on the console with an & at the end

This should work for you. When I got more experiences or knows more about some troubleshooting I wil post it here. If you have some more experiences or questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

LISCON TCs - No username for SSH sessions
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 03:32 PM - LISCON
When you add a SSH session in the Control Center, you only can give them fixed usernames and that's not logical why I can't use my own username. It was possible to enter your own username for the SSH session in the old version.
LSCON will add this 'feature' ;-) again in the next relase.

Bookmark Template using LMC for sharing
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 03:15 PM - LISCON
Here is a example how you can add your own bookmarks in firefox permanently.
Important, when you change the template on the LMC, you have to change the file name of the template. I realized this with verion numbers (e.g. bookmarks_v0.1.tar.gz).

Example and How-To:
-start firefox on a TC
-make your bookmarks and manage them as you want
-close firefox
-copy the file on the TC to the LMC
scp /root/.mozilla/firefox/bookmarks.html ip-of-lmc:/path/to/folder/
-create an template folder for the bookmark$
-edit the bookmarks.html an change all dollar signs as follows
$ to \$

-make the following folder tree in the template folder
config/templates/firefox/

-move the bookmarks.html to this directory what you have created above
-now, create the archive file in the template folder
tar czf bookmarks_v0.1.tar.gz config/

-the template is now created

the next step is to set the startup2 parameter for getting this template automatically
-open LMC's website and login
-go to the group config of your clients
-modify the startup2 parameter as you can see in this file (startup2_parameter)
-now save and announce the settings
-reboot the TCs

When you will add additional bookmarks, please do this by using the same steps as above.

LMC loses ThinClients without any errors
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 02:21 PM - LISCON
The LMC (4.1.3) loses TCs in anomalous time periods. Currently there is no solution given by LISCON, but this issue is known by them.

HTC Touch Cruise (Freed Mobile Phone - Neo1973)
Thursday, November 15, 2007, 02:37 PM - Mobiles
Guys, I have the new phone now. It's a great device, I like it!
Now the device is available at amazon.com, geizhals.at and on any other webpages but the price is bouncing...up and then down again. So I will wait for 1 or 2 months again before I buy it.
HTC have some troubles with this device.
So they can't send it out. I am still waiting
for it but I am not sure if I will get it during
the next 4 weeks.
:-(

Hi to all!

Now it's fixed for this and next year. I ordered the brand new HTC Touch Cruise mobile phone. The opensource project is still stopped or what I mean, there are no news so far.
Today I visit the europe.htc.com site and found the brand new HTC Touch. It's nearly the same as my old one (HTC P3300 Artemis) but there are more then one differences:
-CPU 400 MHz
-RAM 256MB
-HSDPA/UMTS (Europe/USA)
-all other things are the same
(like WLAN, GPRS/EDGE, GPS, and so on)

Now I am waiting for the phone. I will update this article when I tested the phone.

Project currently stopped :-(
Hey Linux freaks,

The x-mas time is coming soon and I have to buy :-) a new mobile phone for me. I am using Linux around all my computer systems, doesn't matter where (working place, at home, laptop).
But for my Mobile Phone exists just the Windows Mobile Version and so I got the feeling to buy a freed open source Mobile Phone.

Over a forum, I found the Neo1973, it's very nice. There exist two version, Neo Base and Nea Advanced. Till now I don't know the difference but I already sent a message to the the openmoko.com company.

I will write more infromation when I got more.
