VMware Server 2.0
Thursday, October 16, 2008, 02:10 PM - VMware
Hi VMware guys,

I just installed the new version of VMware Server. It's a great version so far as I saw till now. You have the feeling like on an ESX, just the virtuall networking isn't there but most of other stuffs are there.

There was only one small thing, what makes me a little bit cray - How can I access the VMware Server?
There is no client in the package, so you have to login via the web access (http://localhost:8222 or https://localhost:8333). For username and password use local accounts, but be careful, if your are using a OS where the root account ist disabled (e.g. Ubuntu), don't set the login permission during the configuration of VMware server (vmware-config.pl) to root - just use another local user!

:-)

VMCP - VMware Capacity Planner 1.0
Thursday, October 2, 2008, 06:55 AM - VMware
The script is now online!

Use and enjoy it!

Hi there!

I needed an calculator, who lets me know how many ESX Server do I need when I want to virtually a data center. So I started to read a lot of forums, data sheets, etc. and after that I created a spreadsheet file which calculates automatically the needed ESX hosts, needed CPU frequency, needed Memory size and so on.
Now I am starting to convert this in an php script, and it will come soon.

NOTE:
This script is for your own risk! I won't take care of any wrong calculated data centers! If you have questions, let me know by get in contact with me.

Use iPod under Linux (tested in Ubuntu)
Sunday, September 14, 2008, 07:01 AM - Linux
Hi,

I tested two different ways and applications (Rhytmbox and GTKPod).

Ryhtmbox
For using iPod with Rhytmbox you have to change just one thing, if the problem is that the music player closes when you plugin the iPod at the computer (maybe with an error message like that *). Disable the iPod plugin and enable the MTP Plugin.
That's it!
Sometimes there is the problem that the iPod doesn't know the new playlist and you have to try it again.

*error message
(rhythmbox:6478): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed

GTKPod
For using the better and simplier way use GTKPod. Just install it via apt-get and start it before you connect the iPod to the computer. All other things, you will see, are very easy.

Gnome PPP GUI for UMTS Modems
Wednesday, July 30, 2008, 08:42 AM - Linux
For using a user friendly GUI to handle your UMTS Modem in Gnome you can use the Gnome-PPP. In the background Gnome-PPP uses WvDial to talk with the modem.
All what you need to install is:
-pppd
-WvDial
-Gnome-PPP

Enjoy it!
